（二）句型结构

1.He was shivering, his face was white, and he walked slowly as though it ached to move.

他颤抖着,脸色苍白,走得很慢,似乎一动就疼。
1) as though/if: 两者连接的从句大多数用虚拟语气,但目前趋向于按实际情况选用陈述语气, 本句中就用的是陈述语气。
例: This old machine operates as if it were a new one. (虚拟语气)这台旧机器操作起来像新机器一样。
It sounds as though someone is knocking at the door. (陈述语气)听起来似乎有人在敲门。
2) ache: a)have a steady or continuous dull pain 持续痛苦
例: The sad news made me ache.这个悲伤的消息让我难受。
b) ache (for): have a longing (for) 渴望
例: His heart ached for the new car.他渴望这辆新汽车。
He ached to be free.他渴望自由。

2.You better go back to bed.

口语中had better中的had有时被省略。

3.But when I came downstairs, he was dressed, sitting by the fire, looking a very sick and miserable boy of nine years.

但等我下了楼,他已经穿好了衣服,坐在火炉边,看起来就是一个病得不轻,很痛苦的九岁的男孩。
"sitting by the fire"和"looking a very sick and miserable boy of nine years," 是现在分词短语做状语。
look: seem to be; appear 似乎
例:The town always looks deserted on Sunday mornings.星期天早晨这镇子总显得冷冷清清的。
You made me look a complete fool. 你让我显得像个十足的傻瓜。

One…, another…, the third.

Here for the father, the sentence means "I feel the same as I did just now. " But what the son means is that "I'm still alive up to now, though I'm going to die soon.."

Here, again, there are different interpretations of "it" between father and son .For the son, "it "refers to" seeing me dying. "For the Father, "it" refers to "staying with me."

come into/go out of sight： come near enough/go too far away to be visible.
例: The train soon went out of sight.火车很快就看不见了。

We tend to forget people or things that are absent and can no longer be seen.

something like: ① about, approximately

②rather like: having some resemblance to颇似,有几分像
例: A thesaurus is something like a dictionary.百科全书有点像字典。

17."It's nothing to worry about-"
"I don't worry, "he said," but I can't keep from thinking."
"Don't think, "I said. "Just take it easy."
"I'm taking it easy,"…
Here, it also means differently to father and son. The father regards "it" as "your temperature", while the son regards "it "as" my death."

18.Do you think it will do any good?
good: n. use; value常用于be no/not much/any/some good(doing sth.)中。
例: It's no good my talking to him.我和他讲话没什么用。

Was his advice ever any good?他的建议有用吗?

19.You know, like how many kilometers we make when we do seventy miles in the car?

你知道乘汽车70英里相当于多少公里?
make: (no passive) travel over(a distance); become
例: We have made 100miles today.我们今天已经走了100英里。
